Proverbs 30:1-6
1 The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an oracle:
This man declared to Ithiel,
to Ithiel and to Ucal:
2 "I am the most ignorant of men;
I do not have a man's understanding.
3 I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands?
Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and the name of his son?
Tell me if you know!
5 "Every word of God is flawless;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Do not add to his words,
or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Proverbs isn't a typical place to find references to Jesus, but this passage is intriguing though vague.
Do you think verse 4 contains a reference to Jesus? If so, it would be one of the few passages in the OT possibly teaching the idea that God has a son in overt "son" language.
The "who" is a bit difficult to identify in this passage. Is it supposed to be a reference to humans, with the answer to the question being "no one!", or is this passage saying no one is like God, no one knows His name or the name of His Son? If it's a reference to some non-existent all-knowing human, I can't see what the importance of knowing his son's name would be. This causes me to lean in favor of seeing this as a reference to God and His Son.
On a related note, Agur's demand that the hearer should "Tell me if you know" reminds me very much of the earnestness with which Jacob inquired of the angel of the Lord about his name.
