OK so I was reading on about Ahab and his notorious reign. ( I had a friend who's stepmother referred to her as Jezabel... truly nasty) I found a few things interesting. A. Not even the King could legally take away the inheritance the Lord had given Naboth's family. Initially the King's offer seems reasonable, but for the fact that the Lord placed so much value on maintaining the inheritance in the land. To my western business mindset, Ahab's offer seems more than fair. The Lord did literally forbid that Naboth give Ahab the inheritance of his fathers. ( I also like Ahab's mature response to rejection ) B. Ok now the bigger question for me comes in with the "lying spirit" Growing up in charismatic circles, I have always associated a lying spirit with a demon to be cast out. Here however, it is clearly responding to God's will and request. Hmmmmm...... This raises questions for me. God is truthful, he does not lie. So is the lying spirit a demon doing God's bidding inadvertently? Or is the lying spirit a spirit in league with God that sets out to trick Ahab... c. How come Jehoshaphat keeps getting messed up with this Ahab and his family? He clearly has a stronger respect for the Lord. Is he just not wise? Also how come he never inquires of the Lord on his own before he agrees to go???
