5/10/06:
Last week I shared about Exodus 18 has really spoken to me lately about the need to share more of the leadership responsibility. As stated elsewhere, I've been talking with Brian about him assuming some of that role with me. If you look at the adjectives Jethro uses to describe Moses' experience (phrases such as worn out, too much, etc..) you really begin to understand the strain that is on spiritual leaders- an experience I can now relate to. Please keep all the Church leaders you know in continual prayer- it really is an enormous task.

5/10/06:
Perhaps needless to say, many of the Early Church Fathers (including the author of the Letter of Barnabas, Justin Martyr, and Tertullian) see the reference to Moses lifting up his arms during the battle with the Amalekites as symbolic of Christ in his crucifixion-- which enabled us to win the victory over the enemy.

5/10/06: We began a discussion about Warfare in the OT Tuesday. I don't have anything to post here, except the passages we read in addition to the Amalekite battle in Exodus 17. For the general "rules of engagement" delivered to Israel, check out Deuteronomy 20. For a description of the practices of the Canaanites (whom God told the Israelites to drive out of the promised land), look to Leviticus 18 and 20. I also gave out a handout on this thorny topic. Hopefully I'll post more on violence/ warfare in the OT when we get to the book of Joshua.
