Last week I taught about the end of Solomon's life and the consequences of his bad choices on the kingdom of Israel.
Probably the most interested thing I learned in prepping was the ironic similarities between Solomon's three adversaries in 1 Kings 11 and Israel's biggest heroes. Solomon's moral slide led him to become a Saul-style bad guy which almost makes his underdog opponents look saintly in underdog, Davidic ways.
Hadad the Edomite becomes a mini Moses, fleeing to Egypt and returning to liberate his people, but this time from the yoke of the Israelites! Rezon becomes like Solomon's own dad, a David-style rebel with a band of mighty men. And Jeroboam becomes even more like David in his underdog, rags-to-riches-to-running for his life mini epic.
Just goes to show you how quickly we can go from humble and favored by God to power hungry control freaks who have lost our own heritage.
