I don't know if anyone else had the experience while sitting around with some of your favorite folks and they happen to tell you about some great show/movie/book/etc. and you think to yourself "Wow, that DOES sound like something I'd like to watch/read, I need to remember that!" ... and then you don't?
So my thought is perhaps we could recount some of those great ideas here?
I know I got recommendations from both Wecks for books, Alex for some shows and probably a few others. But as I mentioned before, I can't recall them - *sigh*
So I thought I would post here a couple that I recall that I recommended:
Temeraire book series, beginning with His Majesty's Dragon - it's an alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, where a portion of Britain's fighting force is the Royal Aerial Corps who captain/man/fight from the backs of dragons. It's not a "magical" universe, rather one where dragons are a race of intelligent and dangerous beings, who can be... impressed? at the time of their hatching and then spend their lives with humans, rather than living feral in the wilds. The alternative history is really interestingly done (at least in my non-historian opinion).
Spy. A Brittish comedy produced exclusively for Hulu. I think it's kind of like The IT Crowd (which we also liked) but done a little better. Average guy in an ongoing custody fight for his dryly disdainful son who does NOT want to live with him accidentally tests into a position with MI5 intelligence with a bizarrely quirky and murderous superior and a beautiful over-achieving co-agent, but can't tell anyone about his new good fortune and must continue to swallow the insults of his son, ex-wife, her new husband and their downright psychotic family therapist.
I am hoping to get titles/authors/venues for some of the great media that was discussed (with me or others) this weekend!
