When you think of the book of Psalms, what thoughts/ impressions come immediately to your mind?
Oh, and when you say the word, do you pronounce the "l" or not? Either is exceptable English pronunciation, just like with "palm" and "almond", but I'm curious what you say.

I've always heard it with the "p" silent and the "l" pronounced. To have two silent letters would be really weird. Like the word "though". "You know, it's too much effort to pronounce all those letters. Let's just take these four letters and give them one sound. A long "o", that seems good." If interested, I have a blog with some general thoughts on the book of Psalms: livingpsalms.blogspot.com/2007/11/why-read-psalms.html

Sorry I didn't have time to respond to this yet. Thanks for the link- I'll check it out. I think Aletheia is going to do a study in the Psalms next fall so I'm gathering resources!

When I am in the Psalms, I am always amazed at how many bits and pieces I know because someone has put them to music (probably mostly Miriam Gibby from my CBF days). I have a lot more scripture memorized than I realize. I was just wondering how much we know collectively-- if we were to pool together all the verses in Psalms that we know because they are in a song.

I have actually got a playlist on my iPod of songs made from Psalms. There's about 50 different ones. I haven't memorized all those songs, but there's a lot of choruses and hymns I don't have on my list.

Do you know the Lost Dog's album Nazarene Crying Towel?
There's a song on there straight out of the Psalms: Be My Hiding Place. We sing it at Aletheia often.
I also have always really liked Third Day's My Hope is In You.
