Anyone know a trusted mechanic in the Portland Or area that you would recommend?

What kind of mechanical problems (Engine, brakes, suspension, transmission)?

I always hesitate to recommend mechanics, because well, I don't know all of them well enough and I would feel bad if someone has a bad experience with my mechanic.
I'll just tell you who we go to, and have been fairly happy with.
For the Honda, we usually go to Clarks on McLoughlin. For the Jeep, I go to Eriksens in L.O. Each of these shops specialize in those makes so I generally feel pretty comfortable trusting their recommendations (within reason of course).

Wish I could help you, but the mechanic I've been using recently told me that the rear brakes on Jenessa's Caravan needed an overhaul, because the shoes were almost gone, and the brake cylinders were leaking fluid. He made it sound urgent. So I just spent this last Saturday doing the work myself to save a couple hundred dollars, and the brake cylinders seemed fine to me (I hadn't been losing any fluid, either), the shoes probably had a good 20,000 miles left in them, and the drums weren't badly worn at all! I did the work anyway, since I had already torn into it, but I won't be going back to that mechanic. Sorry I'm not much help. Finding a good, honest mechanic is a really difficult task. And if you don't know cars very well, he could replace your worn hergumblaffer valve, cheap!

I had a similar experience with my prior mechanic, thus the need for a new one

You have two imports, so I would recommend Orient auto service. They specialize in Japaneses made vehicles. They are located on Orient drive in Gresham, so it may be a little too far for you to drive, but they are very good, in my experience.

I used my Dad's mechanic a few times and found him honest and fair. My Dad loves him. In Clackamas off of Hwy 212. I guess in Tigard too. www.1stchoiceautoservice.com

I also need a mechanic. mostly for just routine stuff after I get new tires and a new battery. fluids and general stuff needs to be checked out. 1stchoice seems like a good one.

Where do you guys go for oil changes (besides Jiffy Lube)? Rose is looking for a new place.

The only other place that comes to mind is Oil Can Henry's, on Webster Rd. By the way it is really easy to change oil, and it could save you $$. If you're interested, I could help. I would also recommend the same for replacing brakes.

I've always changed the oil on my car myself, which is why it's never done in time. But it is easy.
