I have these on audio book. They're fun to listen to on long road trips.
Also, I'm not currently reading anything. Perhaps when things slow down at work I will find some more time to read.

Ha ha. Postive discipline has been down there for a LONG time, huh? ;D
I think we've got some kind of "discipline" book on our nightstand that I didn't even mention!

You'd better find that book quick, then!
Just kidding.
If you can handle 3 kids at home you must be using it 100%.

Well, the books on my nightstand are part of the books on my "I want to read, but don't make the time" list, but it is not the end of the list.
God in the Alley by Greg Paul The Bible by God, transcribed by men and possibly one woman Things Fall Apart, No Long at Ease and Anthills of the Savannah by Chinua Achebe

Wait, I just realized that it sounds like I don't make time for the Bible. That is the one book on my nightstand that gets read all the time and will never get finished.

What? You mean you don't have a special jewel-encrusted separate podium for your bible???

The Beloved Works of C.S. Lewis (includes Surprised by Joy, Reflections on the Psalms, The Four Loves, and The Business of Heaven) Holy Bible (NIV) The Complete Poems of Anne Sexton Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Chas E. Cowman (passed down from my great grandmother) The Nag Hammadi Library (general editor, James M. Robinson) The Gnostic Bible edited by Willis Barnestone and Marvin Meyer
This isn't really like me. I rarely read so many books at once. However, I decided that I couldn't sit down and read each by itself. The collection of poems is something that I have to let sink in after reading only a few. I couldn't fathom reading all of either The Gnostic Bible or The Nag Hammadi Library all at once and indeed it is really interesting to just read maybe a page or two of TNHL. It's like poetry... The C.S. Lewis has been really good so far. It represents the one book lately that I'm actually reading regularly. Really identified with him when he recounted the pessimism of his childhood in Surprised by Joy. The other two kind of speak for themselves- The Bible and a daily devotional.

That is a hefty nightstand you've got there Is this your first foray into Lewis or just some of his books you've haven't read yet? What Gnostic texts have you read so far? Do you have a general interest in ancient or esoteric texts?

Josh, I read the Screwtape Letters about seven years ago. It was not, I repeat in caps, NOT a good time for me to read that book. So, this is sort of a new foray into Lewis. Like I said, I love it so far. Surprised by Joy is quite possibly the best introduction I could have had a long time ago for his writing. One really gets a good insight into how Lewis' writing really works when one reads how he speaks to his own experiences. I have a few friends who would swear by his writing (my friend Chris says The Great Divorce is his favorite book), but I never really gave Lewis his due until now. I'll probably get Mere Christianity next, since I've heard it's a must-have. I do have a general interest in ancient texts. Especially after reading History of God by Karen Armstrong (or half of it anyway...need to try that one again some day . I have only really read some of The Secret Book of John so far and parts of some others... p.s.-- my nightstand is really more of an old school-desk and not a nightstand at all
