Presumably, they said this because the appearance and descriptions of Jesus after his resurrection defied normal explanation- the risen Jesus, according to Paul's traveling companion and chronicler Luke*, had a physical body but yet could walk through walls and could appear and disappear at will. *The idea that Paul believed in a spiritual Jesus whose body merely rotted in the ground doesn't sit well with the fact that Luke, his close friend, chronicler, and companion held exactly the opposite view (that taught in his gospel) Paul speaks highly of Luke in three of his letters, which would not make sense if it was true that the gospels came along later and re-invented the resurrection. In any case, the evidence that the gospel of Luke be dated before the death of Paul is exceptionally strong. That's all I have time for tonight. I've got to go meet with a bunch of guys for a beer and some apologetics. Have a great evening! We'll catch you next time.
