I really appreciated Steve Gregg's teaching on suffering.
One thing that stood out to me was how he didn't flinch at pointing out God's role in allowing suffering to come our way, and the "testing" that is always brought through suffering, while still maintaining that suffering in and of itself is not good, but only so far as we let God redeem it for our good.
I have a follow-up question for anyone to respond to: when you hear of God's actions in the book of Job- especially the "wager" he places with satan over whether Job will disavow God in the face of suffering, what feelings toward God does that evoke within you?
Does it cause you to see God as a cold, calculating scientist performing experiments on us? Or is there anything within Job's story, or in other things Steve pointed out, that lead you to see God's involvment in suffering in a different light?

That's a great question Josh. At first I thought the God seemed like a cruel God. And then I thought was it cruel that he would allow His Son to die the way He did? When you think about it, we really have no rights when it comes to standing before God. Being raised a Roman Catholic from a young age, I was taught how awful sin is. As I look back, that really is true. It is all about this cancer called sin. That's why as Steve said, God is sending us to school and the bad guy is testing us. As long as I keep following Him, He will enable me to get good grades.
